Dissocia: an artistic visual representation of mental disorder by Ophélie Ayoune
“Dissocia” by Ophélie Ayoune
“Interconnection of art and emotion gives life to the chaotic and contrasting universe of the human mind at war with itself. Dissocia is an immersion into inner confusion, where the boundaries between order and chaos blur, and every image reflects a facet of mental disorder.
The vivid, saturated colors blended with raw textures convey a fragmented, almost hallucinatory vision of a troubled soul. Enigmatic poses and layered effects invite the viewer to feel this mix of confusion and beauty, this contrast between control and surrender.
Each snapshot tells a story: intertwined leaves, resembling a labyrinth, symbolize inner confinement, while blurred movements embody instability and the search for balance. The white feathers, both delicate and imposing, evoke a quest for freedom in a world full of tension. The metallic gleam and deep shadows suggest the duality between outward appearances and hidden struggles.
With Dissocia, the viewer is invited to dive into a universe where beauty and chaos coexist.”
Her visual essay “Dissocia” represents an internal struggle caused by the pursuit of mental stability. This “interconnection between art and feelings", as she describes it, showcases an unsteady journey through a dark path of questions and confusions, guided by a gleam of hope. This visual essay add on to her enigmatic body of work.
Ophélie is the true definition of not conforming to expectations. Looking at her work is similar to diving into the ocean: you can be mesmerized by its surface and its azure water, but if you dive in, do not get lost… She is a young creative from Gabon who tries to communicate concepts and stories visually by experimenting with different types of colors and textures. She does her best to stay true to her vision.
“To be honest, I only very recently understood what my atmosphere really is. Until then, I’d always been doing it unconsciously, without knowing what it was, so I was really creating based on feelings.”
At the beginning of her journey, it was just a way to express herself, using the available resources she had at the time: a smartphone. Ophélie thinks outside the box by playing around with general stereotypes or mixing different atmospheres to achieve a result that is appealing to her. Every detail means something, as she often says: “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
Ophélie uses videography as a way to explore deeper narratives. In Acte III (via Instagram), she invites people to take a closer look at the social and governmental situation in Gabon. She raises awareness about the current social climate by giving young people a voice to question the reality of the country. In this project, she used art as a medium of communication.
Ophélie constantly thinks and questions how she can improve her work or take it to the next level.
“I’m going to keep following my gut feeling, but I’ll just do it in a slightly more ‘professional’ and structured way.”
Not conforming to expectations is a rule that we live by through Forzapier, and Ophélie follows the same principle through her work.
With “Dissocia”, she immerses us in a visual experience where chaos and beauty connect. This project is an exploration of mental disorder that brings order and chaos together in a powerful aesthetic dialogue.
